The global tech industry is overwhelmingly white, male, and notoriously discriminatory. According to TechCrunch, over 70% of tech leaders are men, while only 3% of the workforce identifies as Black. These structural inequalities are not glitches—they’re features of the system.
But what if we could create a glitch that is not an error but a strategy for resistance?
ZAM Magazine (the Netherlands) and Bubblegumclub (South Africa) are doing exactly that in a new collaborative project: Glitching the Future. Find out how we’re creating design that disrupts and challenges the exclusionary structures of Big Tech by watching our new video here.
Glitching the Future has already begun. The Netherlands’ Fund for Creative Industries has awarded ZAM and Bubblegumclub a substantial subsidy to create design work in the realm of Digital Culture with this collaborative project. Visual artist Thembeka Heidi Sincuba (known to ZAM audiences through exhibitions in 2025 and 2023) and Jamal Nxedlana are the creative leads behind the project2023

De wereldwijde tech-industrie is overweldigend wit, mannelijk en notoir discriminerend. Volgens TechCrunch is meer dan 70% van de technologieleiders man, terwijl slechts 3% van de beroepsbevolking zwart is. Deze structurele ongelijkheden zijn geen fouten of tekortkomingen – dit is een systeem.
Maar wat als we een ‘storing’ zouden kunnen veroorzaken die niet op een fout berust, maar deel uitmaakt van een strategie voor verzet?
Dat is wat ZAM Magazine (Nederland) en Bubblegumclub (Zuid-Afrika) doen in een nieuw samenwerkingsproject: Glitching the Future. Ontdek hoe we design creëren dat de uitsluitingsmechanismen van Big Tech ontwricht en uitdaagt door onze nieuwe video hier te bekijken.
Glitching the Future is al begonnen. Het Stimuleringsfonds Creatieve Industrie heeft ZAM en Bubblegumclub een substantiële subsidie toegekend om met dit samenwerkingsproject design te ontwikkelen op het gebied van Digitale Cultuur. Beeldend kunstenaar Thembeka Heidi Sincuba (bekend bij ZAM-publiek door tentoonstellingen in 2025 en 2023) en Jamal Nxedlana zijn de creatieve leiders van het project.
